  • A smart tip to follow while playing basketball is to always keep your eye on the ball and not away from the play. This will give you court awareness and keep you from being surprised by quick passes or turnover potentials. Always be on the lookout for open areas where you can seize easy scoring opportunities.

  • If your shooting is suffering, take a close look at your shoulders. No matter your skill level, you won’t make shots if your shoulders aren’t in the proper position. Keep your shoulders square to the hoop. The shoulder that is dominant should be perfectly aligned with the hoop rim.

  • Be aware of what your feet are doing and where they are. Stepping even a toe on the baseline with the ball in your hands means you are out of bounds. Taking too many steps without dribbling means a walking call and another turnover situation. Moving either of your feet when setting a pick, screen, or even take a charge will result in a foul.

  • Video tape your games, and then review your technique later. This way, you have the opportunity to go through your play at a later time and see your mistakes. You can use this information to improve your game. You can learn a lot by watching how you play and what you need to concentrate practicing on.

  • Look away when you practice passing. This throws your opponents off. If you do it right, this draws your opponents’ focus the wrong way. If this is pulled off, then it usually has good results.
